    PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION RULES! GUIDELINES FOR PRIVACY-FRIENDLY SMART ENERGY SERVICES

    Privacy-friendly processing of personal data is proving to be increasingly challenging in today’s energy systems as the amount of data grows. Smart energy services provide value creation and co-creation by processing sensible user data collected from smart meters, smart home devices, storage systems, and renewable energy plants. To address this challenge, we analyze key topics and develop design requirements and design principles for privacy-friendly personal data processing in smart energy services. We identify these key topics through expert interviews, text-mining, and topic modelling techniques based on 149 publications. Following this, we derive our design requirements and principles and evaluate these with experts and an applicability check with three real-world smart energy services. Based on our results and findings, we establish a further research agenda consisting of five specific research directions

    Artificial Intelligence for Cybersecurity: Towards Taxonomy-based Archetypes and Decision Support

    Cybersecurity is a critical success factor for more resilient companies, organizations, and societies against cyberattacks. Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven cybersecurity solutions have the ability to detect and respond to cyber threats and attacks and other malicious activities. For this purpose, the most important resource is security-relevant data from networks, cloud systems, clients, e-mails, and previous cyberattacks. AI, the key technology, can automatically detect, for example, anomalies and malicious behavior. Consequently, the market for AI-driven cybersecurity solutions is growing significantly. We develop a taxonomy of AI-driven cybersecurity business models by classifying 229 real-world services. Building on that, we derive four specific archetypes using a cluster analysis toward a comprehensive academic knowledge base of business model elements. To reduce complexity and simplify the results of the taxonomy and archetypes, we propose DETRAICS, a decision tree for AI-driven cybersecurity services.     Who needs XAI in the Energy Sector? A Framework to Upgrade Black Box Explainability

    Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based methods in the energy sector challenge companies, organizations, and societies. Organizational issues include traceability, certifiability, explainability, responsibility, and efficiency. Societal challenges include ethical norms, bias, discrimination, privacy, and information security. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) can address these issues in various application areas of the energy sector, e.g., power generation forecasting, load management, and network security operations. We derive Key Topics (KTs) and Design Requirements (DRs) and develop Design Principles (DPs) for efficient XAI applications through Design Science Research (DSR). We analyze 179 scientific articles to identify our 8 KTs for XAI implementation through text mining and topic modeling. Based on the KTs, we derive 15 DRs and develop 18 DPs. After that, we discuss and evaluate our results and findings through expert surveys. We develop a Three-Forces Model as a framework for implementing efficient XAI solutions.     Decision support for efficient XAI services - A morphological analysis, business model archetypes, and a decision tree

    The black-box nature of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models and their associated explainability limitations create a major adoption barrier. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) aims to make AI models more transparent to address this challenge. Researchers and practitioners apply XAI services to explore relationships in data, improve AI methods, justify AI decisions, and control AI technologies with the goals to improve knowledge about AI and address user needs. The market volume of XAI services has grown significantly. As a result, trustworthiness, reliability, transferability, fairness, and accessibility are required capabilities of XAI for a range of relevant stakeholders, including managers, regulators, users of XAI models, developers, and consumers. We contribute to theory and practice by deducing XAI archetypes and developing a user-centric decision support framework to identify the XAI services most suitable for the requirements of relevant stakeholders. Our decision tree is founded on a literature-based morphological box and a classification of real-world XAI services.     Angestoßen durch die demografische Entwicklung und deren absehbaren volkswirtschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Folgen ist die Vereinbarkeit von Beruf und Familie in den vergangenen Jahren in Deutschland von einer eher randstĂ€ndigen Position ins Zentrum der deutschen Reformdiskussion gerĂŒckt. Unternehmen nehmen sich hierbei zunehmend als eigenstĂ€ndige Akteure wahr, die durch betriebsinterne Vereinbarkeitsmodelle dazu beitragen, die Elternschaft respektive die Pflege Familienangehöriger mit dem Berufsleben ihrer Mitarbeiter zu harmonisieren – unabhĂ€ngig von staatlichen Reglementierungen und Steuerungsmodellen. Die in diesem Zusammenhang vertrauten SchlĂŒsselbegriffe wie Familienbewusstsein, Familienorientierung oder Familienfreundlichkeit werden zwar hĂ€ufig – und scheinbar synonym – verwendet, eine semantische Abgrenzung sowie eine detaillierte Betrachtung bleiben jedoch aus. DarĂŒber hinaus fehlen valide Messinstrumente, die Aussagen darĂŒber ermöglichen, ob und inwiefern Unternehmen familienbewusst sind. Vor diesem Hintergrund erscheint es von zentraler Bedeutung, Familienbewusstsein grundlegend zu konzeptualisieren und zu operationalisieren. Der vorliegende Beitrag soll zur Schließung dieser ForschungslĂŒcke beitragen.Due to the demographic development in Germany, the importance of reconciling work and family is constantly increasing. Companies progressively more perceive themselves as independent players, who contribute to the reconcilability of work and family by the use of family-friendly policies, independent from governmental regimentations and steering models. The keywords which are familiar in this context – Familienbewusstsein, Familienorientierung, Familienfreundlichkeit – are often and seemingly synonymously used but neither differentiated from each other nor in detail filled with meaning and content. Furthermore, attempts to state whether or not and in how far companies are family-friendly – in other words attempts to measure family consciousness – are missing. Taking this deficiency into account, it is of vital importance to conceptualise and operationalise family consciousness. This article aims at closing this gap

    TRPV4 Stimulation Level Regulates Ca2+-Dependent Control of Human Corneal Endothelial Cell Viability and Survival

    The functional contribution of transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) expression in maintaining human corneal endothelial cells (HCEC) homeostasis is unclear. Accordingly, we determined the effects of TRPV4 gene and protein overexpression on responses modulating the viability and survival of HCEC. Q-PCR, Western blot, FACS analyses and fluorescence single-cell calcium imaging confirmed TRPV4 gene and protein overexpression in lentivirally transduced 12V4 cells derived from their parent HCEC-12 line. Although TRPV4 overexpression did not alter the baseline transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER), its cellular capacitance (Ccl) was larger than that in its parent. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that only the 12V4 cells developed densely packed villus-like protrusions. Stimulation of TRPV4 activity with GSK1016790A (GSK101, 10 mu mol/L) induced larger Ca2+ transients in the 12V4 cells than those in the parental HCEC-12. One to ten nmol/L GSK101 decreased 12V4 viability, increased cell death rates and reduced the TEER, whereas 1 mu mol/L GSK101 was required to induce similar effects in the HCEC-12. However, the TRPV4 channel blocker RN1734 (1 to 30 mu mol/L) failed to alter HCEC-12 and 12V4 morphology, cell viability and metabolic activity. Taken together, TRPV4 overexpression altered both the HCEC morphology and markedly lowered the GSK101 dosages required to stimulate its channel activity

    Psychotropic drug concentrations and clinical outcomes in children and adolescents: a systematic review

    Introduction: The use of psychotropic drugs in children and adolescents is widespread but associated with suboptimal treatment effects. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) can improve safety of psychotropic drugs in children and adolescents but is not routinely performed. A major reason is that the relationship between drug concentrations and effects is not well known. Areas covered: This systematic review evaluated studies assessing the relationship between psychotropic drug concentrations and clinical outcomes in children and adolescents, including antipsychotics, psychostimulants, alpha-agonists, antidepressants, and mood-stabilizers. PRISMA guidelines were used and a quality assessment of the retrieved studies was performed. Sixty-seven eligible studies involving 24 psychotropic drugs were identified from 9,298 records. The findings were generally heterogeneous and the majority of all retrieved studies were not of sufficient quality. For 11 psychotropic drugs, a relationship between drug concentrations and side-effects and/or effectiveness was evidenced in reasonably reported and executed studies, but these findings were barely replicated. Expert opinion: In order to better support routine TDM in child- and adolescent psychiatry, future work must improve in aspects of study design, execution and reporting to demonstrate drug concentration-effect relationships.     Jet energy measurement with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV

    The jet energy scale and its systematic uncertainty are determined for jets measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 38 pb-1. Jets are reconstructed with the anti-kt algorithm with distance parameters R=0. 4 or R=0. 6. Jet energy and angle corrections are determined from Monte Carlo simulations to calibrate jets with transverse momenta pT≄20 GeV and pseudorapidities {pipe}η{pipe}<4. 5. The jet energy systematic uncertainty is estimated using the single isolated hadron response measured in situ and in test-beams, exploiting the transverse momentum balance between central and forward jets in events with dijet topologies and studying systematic variations in Monte Carlo simulations. The jet energy uncertainty is less than 2. 5 % in the central calorimeter region ({pipe}η{pipe}<0. 8) for jets with 60≀pT<800 GeV, and is maximally 14 % for pT<30 GeV in the most forward region 3. 2≀{pipe}η{pipe}<4. 5. The jet energy is validated for jet transverse momenta up to 1 TeV to the level of a few percent using several in situ techniques by comparing a well-known reference such as the recoiling photon pT, the sum of the transverse momenta of tracks associated to the jet, or a system of low-pT jets recoiling against a high-pT jet. More sophisticated jet calibration schemes are presented based on calorimeter cell energy density weighting or hadronic properties of jets, aiming for an improved jet energy resolution and a reduced flavour dependence of the jet response. The systematic uncertainty of the jet energy determined from a combination of in situ techniques is consistent with the one derived from single hadron response measurements over a wide kinematic range. The nominal corrections and uncertainties are derived for isolated jets in an inclusive sample of high-pT jets. Special cases such as event topologies with close-by jets, or selections of samples with an enhanced content of jets originating from light quarks, heavy quarks or gluons are also discussed and the corresponding uncertainties are determined. © 2013 CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS collaboration

    Potentials and Technical Requirements for the Provision of Ancillary Services in Future Power Systems with Distributed Energy Resources

    A decentralized supply of electrical power based on renewable energies paves the way to a sustainable power supply without nuclear energy and without the emission of greenhouse gases. This energy transition (Energiewende) entails challenges regarding the provision of Ancillary Services (AS), associated with intermittent in-feed of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) into the distribution grids. In this paper, the demand, potentials, and technical requirements for AS provision in Germany, especially in the state of Lower Saxony, are discussed. These aspects are considered from multiple perspectives across all voltage levels. Beginning with a steady state analysis that focuses on the transmission grid, an expected increment in voltage violations and line congestions is revealed. Counteracting the resulting technical limit violations requires consideration of distribution grid flexibilities among others. To address this emerging demand, the potentials for the provision of AS by components in the distribution grids are identified. However, technical concepts are also required to exploit the potential, as DER in-feed has significant impact on the functionality of conventional protection systems. The analysis in this paper indicates the need for development of concepts to provide AS in the distribution grid and detailed technical requirements within a holistic simulative approach

    Measurement of the inclusive and dijet cross-sections of b-jets in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    The inclusive and dijet production cross-sections have been measured for jets containing b-hadrons (b-jets) in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurements use data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb^-1. The b-jets are identified using either a lifetime-based method, where secondary decay vertices of b-hadrons in jets are reconstructed using information from the tracking detectors, or a muon-based method where the presence of a muon is used to identify semileptonic decays of b-hadrons inside jets. The inclusive b-jet cross-section is measured as a function of transverse momentum in the range 20 < pT < 400 GeV and rapidity in the range |y| < 2.1. The bbbar-dijet cross-section is measured as a function of the dijet invariant mass in the range 110 < m_jj < 760 GeV, the azimuthal angle difference between the two jets and the angular variable chi in two dijet mass regions. The results are compared with next-to-leading-order QCD predictions. Good agreement is observed between the measured cross-sections and the predictions obtained using POWHEG + Pythia. MC@NLO + Herwig shows good agreement with the measured bbbar-dijet cross-section. However, it does not reproduce the measured inclusive cross-section well, particularly for central b-jets with large transverse momenta.Comment: 10 pages plus author list (21 pages total), 8 figures, 1 table, final version published in European Physical Journal
